Frequently asked questions

The things people ask before they sign up, answered plainly. If yours is not here, ask us and we will add it.

Backup and restore

How long does the first backup take?

The first run copies everything, so it depends on how much data you have and how fast your connection uploads. A small office is often finished overnight; a file server with hundreds of gigabytes can take several days. It runs in the background and you keep working. After the first copy only changed data is sent, so later runs are minutes, not days.

Billing

Do you charge extra for restores?

No. Getting your own data back is the reason the service exists, not an upsell. If you need a restore, ask, and we will help you do it.

How do I pay?

You can pay in Pakistani rupees by bank transfer, JazzCash or Easypaisa. Prices are quoted in PKR and in USD as separate price lists, so there are no exchange-rate surprises on the invoice.

What happens to my data if I cancel?

Your stored data is kept for a short grace period after cancellation so you can retrieve it, and then it is deleted. Tell us before you cancel if you need a full copy handed back and we will arrange it.

How do I pay from Pakistan?

Bank transfer, JazzCash or Easypaisa, all in rupees. You can also order on WhatsApp and pay however we agree. Card payment in US dollars is available for customers billing abroad.

What happens after I pay?

You get an order confirmation immediately and a link to set your own password. We then set up your backup — usually the same working day — and email you when it is running.

Can I change plan later?

Yes. Tell us what changed and we will move you up or down and adjust the next invoice. You do not lose your backup history when the plan changes.

Databases

Can you back up SQL Server while it is running?

Yes. We ask the database engine itself for a consistent copy, which is what makes the backup restorable. Copying the database file while the engine is writing to it usually produces something that will not open — a common and expensive surprise.

Can I recover to a specific moment, not just last night?

With transaction-log backups in place, yes — you can go back to a point in time, for example just before a wrong entry was posted. This matters most for accounting, inventory and ERP systems.

General

What is the difference between cloud storage and cloud backup?

Cloud storage is where files live and are shared. Cloud backup is a separate copy of them, kept so you can go back to how things were. Anything that deletes a file in storage — a mistake, a bad sync, a compromised account — deletes it everywhere it is synced. Only a backup keeps the older version.

Getting started

What do you need from me to get started?

Roughly how many machines you want protected, what is on them, whether any databases are involved, and how far back you want to be able to go. That is enough for a real price and a plan. The rest we work out together.

Do you support Windows, Linux and Mac?

Tell us what you are running and we will confirm what we can protect on it. Windows servers and desktops are the most common setup we see in Pakistan, and databases are handled separately from files in every case.

Security

Can you read my files?

No. Your data is encrypted on your own machine before it is transmitted, and it stays encrypted while we store it. Our staff do not browse customer data.

Will DISK.PK ever ask me for my password?

Never. Not by email, not on WhatsApp, not on a phone call. We do not store passwords in a readable form, so nobody here can look one up or tell it to you — if you forget yours, we send a one-time link and you set a new one. If somebody contacts you claiming to be DISK.PK and asks for a password, it is not us. Please tell us about it.

Does ransomware not just encrypt the backup too?

That is exactly what it tries to do, and it is why backups on a mapped drive, a network share or a NAS with saved credentials so often fail. Protection comes from keeping the copy somewhere the infected machine cannot authenticate to, and from keeping history so that overwriting today cannot destroy last week.

Do you store my card details?

No. Card and wallet payments happen on the provider's own page — the details never reach our server. We store the transaction reference and nothing else.

Support

When can I reach support?

During Pakistani working hours, by email, through the customer portal and on WhatsApp. For a live incident — a failed server or an attack in progress — say so in the first line of your message and it goes to the top.

Not sure which plan fits?

Tell us what you need protected — how many machines, how much data, which databases — and we will tell you honestly what it takes.
